铁栏杆滑开，她被命令进去。她戴着手铐和脚镣，蹒跚地走了进去。狱警让她把手伸进门上的开口，然后解开了手铐。瑞秋环顾了一下牢房，然后走向那块空荡荡的、坚硬的牢房床位。她坐在坚硬的床上，双脚仍然被锁链束缚着，思索着自己将在这个狭小的牢笼般的家中度过的漫长时光。

牢房里时间一分一秒地过去，噪音从未停止，一切似乎都没有改变。瑞秋只能透过牢房的铁栏杆，凝视着同样令人窒息的牢房走廊。她的牢房位于走廊尽头，所以狱警很少会完全经过她的牢房。她能听到其他监区或牢房里囚犯们的喧闹声。这里相对安静一些，可能是因为她被关在一个较小的ADSEC监区，目前只是被监视着。

狱警最终还是回来了，再次给她戴上手铐，然后命令她走到牢房后面。他走进牢房，把一张蓝色床垫和枕头扔到床上。他命令她跪在床上。他脱下她监狱发的橙色拖鞋扔到地上，然后解开了她的脚镣。她从床上下来，狱警关上并锁上了牢房门。然后，他再次让她举起双手，解开了她的手铐。

瑞秋被锁了一整天，又在囚车里颠簸了很久才被放开。她走到刚拿到的床垫上坐下，最后无奈地躺在床上。她心想，难道这就是她以后的生活了吗？她还要在牢房里待多久，整天盯着墙壁发呆？录像显示，她长时间地盯着天花板，脚底对着床铺脚边的摄像头。

狱警再次回来，这次没有戴手铐，只是命令道：“站起来，面向牢房后面的墙，双手抱头。”他打开牢房门，扔进来一条毯子和一个难看的塑料盒，里面装着一些基本用品：肥皂、牙刷、牙膏、梳子、纸和笔。

瑞秋梳理着头发，头发还湿漉漉的，那是入狱时被冰水冲洗过的痕迹（第四部分）。她把头发扔回盒子里，裹上粗糙的灰色毯子。晚上十点，灯熄灭了，囚犯们都该回床上睡觉了。她最终躺了下来。

瑞秋在床上翻来覆去地睡了一会儿，然后静静地躺着，试图休息一下。她睡得断断续续，但最终还是睡着了。镜头再次切换，这次速度快了很多，记录着她在监狱牢房里度过的第一个夜晚。这一幕是当晚实时拍摄的。

狱警走近，我们看到他的视角：他命令可怜又笨拙的新犯人瑞秋走到牢房门口，点名时她应该站在那里。然后，他狠狠地训斥了她一番，质问她所谓的“整理床铺”到底是怎么回事。接着，他命令她到牢房后面去。他走进牢房，给瑞秋戴上手铐，开始翻找她的床铺，检查床垫下面，抖动毯子。他还让她脱掉鞋子，露出脚底，并让她动动脚趾。我们不清楚他究竟是在搜查违禁品，还是仅仅想炫耀自己有权闯入她的房间，撕扯她的床铺，让她经历这些羞辱性的仪式。最后，他告诉她，她需要把毯子叠好，放在床尾。

他离开牢房，关上门，让瑞秋走到牢房门口，再次解开她的手铐。

瑞秋漫不经心地试图叠好毯子，然后拿起梳子，一边哭一边整理头发。这只是这里成千上万个早晨中的一个，每一个早晨都差不多是这样。

牢房里过了一会儿，瑞秋的第一顿监狱早餐送到了：一张全麦玉米饼，一些稀稀的、没加盐也没调味的炒鸡蛋，一些干烤蚕豆，一根长满斑点的香蕉，还有一种看起来像三分之一松饼的甜面包。食物淡而无味，鸡蛋口感糟糕，托盘上的所有东西都是冷的。她试着吃了一些鸡蛋和一些卷饼皮，还挑了几口又干又硬的蚕豆，但大部分食物都留给了狱警，等他回来收走。

Kora Summers plays Rachel Moore, a former serial burglar and local bad girl, now a numbered inmate with an assigned cell and bunk in a state prison.

Rachel has just be processed in to prison. After a humiliating strip and cavity search in part 4, she walks down the hall of the prison with a corrections officer guiding her. She is told to stand and face the bars, and stares into the cell at her new bed. A solid grey featureless block built right into the floor next to a cold steel toilet.

The bars slide open and she is told to step inside. She waddles in handcuffed and shackled. The CO tells her to place her hands through the port on the door, and removes the handcuffs. Rachel looks around the cell, then heads over to the empty solid block of a prison bunk. She sits down on it's hard surface, her feet still in chains, and contemplates the many hours she will have to pass in this little cage of a home.

Some time passes in the cell, the noise never stops, very little changes. All Rachel can do is stare out from behind the cell bars at an equally confining cell block hallway. She is at the end of the hall so the guard rarely even fully passes the cell. She can hear the swarm of inmates yelling off in some other pod or cell block. In here it is quieter, probably because she is in a smaller ADSEC block still just being observed.

The CO does eventually return and handcuffs her again, then tells her to walk to the back of the cell. He enters the cell, tosses a blue mattress onto the bed with a pillow. He orders her up onto the bed on her knees. He pulls off her prison issue orange slides and tosses them down, then removes her shackles. She steps down from the bed as the officer shuts and locks her cell door. Then he has her present her hands again and removes the cuffs.

Rachel is finally unrestrained after being chained up all day and a long ride in the van going to the prison. She goes to sit on the mattress she has just been given, and eventually resigns to laying on her bed. Is this really what her life is going to be like now, she wonders. How long will she be sitting in a cell all day staring at the walls? The footage time lapses as she spends quite a long time staring up at the ceiling with the soles of her feet placed down at the camera at the foot of her bunk.

The CO returns again, this time there is no handcuffs, just "stand up, face the wall at the back of the cell, hands on you head". He opens the cell and tosses in a blanket and an ugly looking plastic box with some basics: soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a comb, and some paper and a pen.

Rachel combs out her hair, still wet from when they hosed her down with freezing water during intake (Part 4) she then tosses it back in the box and wraps her self in the scratchy grey blanket. Eventually she lays back, at 10PM the lights go out, and the inmates are expected to be in their beds.

Rachel tosses and turns on her bunk a bit, then lays still trying to get some rest. It's a fitful rest but eventually she does get some rest. The footage time lapses again, this time much faster as she spends her first night spent in a prison cell. This scene was filmed in real time overnight.

At 6:00AM the lights turn back on and a CO shouts for the inmates to wake up and be ready for a head count.

Rachel stands awkwardly by the bunk after tossing her blanket at the foot of her bed. She seems to have had gotten little rest over night. Her hair is a mess and she is still in shock from being suddenly awoken by bright lights and a prison guard shouting at her.

The CO approaches and we see his POV as he orders poor awkward newbie convict girl Rachel up to the cell door where she is supposed to be standing during the count. Then he chews her out about her version of a "made bed". He then orders her to the back of the cell. He steps inside, puts the inmate in a pair of handcuff, and begins tossing her cell, checking under the mattress and shaking out the blanket. He has her remove her shoes as well to show the bottoms of her feet, and wiggle her toes. It is not clear if he is really looking for contraband, or simply wanted to show his power to invade and tear up her bed, and put her through humiliating little rituals. Finally he tells her she needs to fold the blanket and place it at the bottom of her bed.

He leaves the cell, shuts the door, and makes Rachel come to the bars have the handcuffs taken off again.

Rachel makes a rather poor half hearted attempt to fold up the blanket, and then picks up her comb and begins trying to fix her hair while starting to cry. This is morning one of many thousands in here, and every single one of them is going to be a bit like this.

Some time passes in the cell, then Rachel is served her first prison breakfast: a whole wheat tortilla, runny unsalted and unseasoned scrambled eggs, dry roasted broad beans, a very spotty banana, and a kind of sweet bread thing that looks like 1/3rd of a muffin. The meal is flavorless, the eggs are a disgusting consistency, and everything on the tray is cold. She tries to eat the eggs, some of the wrap, and picks at the dry crunchy dense broad beans, but leaves most of her tray for the CO to pick up when he comes back around.

After collecting the meal trays, the guard orders Rachel up to the bars for handcuffing again. Then she is told to kneel on the bed, and he enters the cell to put her in shackles again. The restraints will be a constant presence in her life, and for now a daily ritual. She is restrained and told she is going to be taken for a shower. Then she is walked out of the cell.
