杰德因盗窃雇主——她工作的珠宝店老板的商品而被判入狱三年。她曾试图抗辩，但最终却只换来了一份认罪协议，而这份协议本可以让她少服刑。

今天早上，太阳还没升起，她就离开了之前的公寓，归还了钥匙，只带了几件随身物品就来到警察局自首，准备被押送到监狱服刑。

镜头从杰德走进收押室开始。她腰间系着一条棕色的押送腰带，戴着手铐，脚镣铐在她宽松的蓝色牛仔裤裤腿上。

杰德按照指示在长椅上坐下。

她百感交集，举止也颇为典型，一个曾经过着体面生活的年轻女性，如今却要适应监狱里冷酷简陋的环境，以及像她一样的囚犯所遭受的残酷对待。杰德或许仍在努力接受自己已被判重罪的事实，也明白在法庭上苦苦哀求别人倾听她诉苦的时代早已过去。她执意向充耳不闻的狱警，或许也向自己内心的良知哭诉，说自己是无辜的，不该遭受这样的惩罚。然而，无论是否罪有应得，杰德此时已无法改变命运，她的罪行已被认定。

一名狱警进入房间，开始入监登记的第一步，他让杰德脱掉鞋子。然后，杰德被命令站起来，走到墙边，面朝墙壁。手铐和押送带被解开，杰德也被要求脱掉毛衣。她双手抱头站着，手铐被放在架子上。杰德被反铐在背后，然后回到长椅上等待。

在空调良好的监狱收押室里，杰德赤着脚，脱掉了毛衣。压力和焦虑逐渐转化为无聊，然后又回到焦虑。没有任何东西可以刺激她，让她分心，而她被硬邦邦的金属手铐反铐在背后，时刻提醒着她身在何处，正在发生什么。

负责处理她的狱警回来后，让她抬起脚，让他看看脚底和脚趾缝。狱警抓住她的脚踝，把她的脚抬到空中以便看得更清楚，杰德看起来既震惊又屈辱。由于脚镣上的链子很短，当他抬起一只脚时，另一只脚也跟着抬起来悬在空中。

杰德拍完入狱照后，又开始了漫长的等待，她一边抱怨一边嘟囔着这是个错误。狱警回来后，杰德跪在长凳上，手铐和脚镣被解开，并戴上了一个橙色的身份识别腕带。她被命令站起来，双手背在身后，走到走廊尽头的收押室。杰德走出镜头，消失在收押室里。

画面短暂变黑，再次出现时，杰德正走回房间，这次她换上了一套黑白条纹的囚服。这身装扮与她之前的便服形成了鲜明的对比。杰德现在看起来更像一个罪犯，穿上这身衣服，她也开始觉得自己更像个罪犯了。她双手背在身后走出单独的收押室，似乎她进来时表现出的那种傲慢态度也随着衣服一起消失了。或许穿上囚服让她收敛了几分，换装之后，她似乎安静了许多，也更加胆怯了。

杰德在长椅上坐了一会儿，就被命令起身背对着狱警，很快，她就被要求把手放在背后，一副手铐被戴上了。她跪下接受脚镣，然后被告知等待被送往牢房。可怜的女孩穿着崭新的囚服，努力适应着这身装束。这是她人生中第一次被戴上手铐、脚镣，并穿上囚服。随着被关进牢房的那一刻越来越近，她恐惧地蜷缩在长椅上。Meet Jade, she's what you might describe as a girl next door type. She's a kind soft soul, easy to get along with, quiet for the most part, but confident and hides a wild side beneath her otherwise gentle demeanor. She is not at all what you expect from a convicted felon and the newest arrival in a state prison facility.

Jade is here to serve a 3 year sentence for theft of merchandise from her employer, the owners of a jewelry shop where she worked. She attempted to fight the charges, but this only cost her a plea deal that would have meant less time in prison.

This morning before the sun had risen she left her old apartment, returned the key, and walked with only a few belongings down to the police station to self surrender and be transported to prison to start her sentence.

The scene begins as Jade enters the intake room. She is belted at the waist with a brown transport belt, handcuffed, and shackled over the pant leg of her baggy blue jeans.

Jade sits down on the bench as ordered.

She is in a mix of emotions, and generally acting out in a pretty typical fashion for a young woman used to a decent life style adapting to the cold spartan conditions of prison, and the harsh and cold treatment of convicts like herself. Though Jade is still likely struggling to identify with the idea that she is in fact a convicted felon, and that the point of begging for someone to listen to her passed back in the court room. Jade insists on whining to the deaf ears of the corrections staff and maybe her own inner conscience that she is innocent and didn't do anything to deserve this. Deserved or not though, Jade can't change her outcome at this point, her guilt has already been determined.

An officer enters the room for stage on of the intake, he has her remove her shoes. Then Jade is told to stand up and walk down and face the wall. The handcuffs and transport belt are taken off, and Jade is made to take off her sweater. She then stands with her hands on her head while the restraints are put on a shelf. Jade is handcuffed behind the back and then returns to waiting on the bench.

In the well air conditioned prison intake Jade now sits barefoot and without her sweater. Stress and anxiety progress into boredom, then back into anxiety. There is nothing to stimulate her or remove her focus from her situations, and her arms pinned behind her back with rigid metal cuffs keep her well reminded where she is and what's happening.

When the CO processing her returns he has her raise her feet up and show him the bottoms and between her toes. Jade looks shocked and humiliated as the officer grabs her ankle and raises her foot into the air to see better. The short chain on the shackles means as he raises one foot up, the other lifts up off the ground and hangs in the air.

Jade's mugshots are taken, then it's back to more waiting games as Jade continues to moan and huff that this is a mistake. When the CO returns Jade kneels on the bench her shackles and handcuffs are taken off, and an orange ID wrist band is put on her. She is told to stand up, keep her hands behind her back, and walk down and into the intake room at the end of the hall. Jade walks off camera and disappears into the intake room.

We fade to black for a moment, and when we are back Jade is walking back into the room, now dressed out in a Black and White stripe prison uniform. It is a very stark contrast on her compared to her street clothes. Jade looks a lot more like a convicted criminal now, and she's starting to feel a lot more like one in these clothes too. She walks out of the private intake room with her hands held behind her back, and it seems like the remainder of the attitude she was showing when she walked in was removed along with her clothing. Perhaps putting on the stripes brought her down a peg or two, but she seems a bit quieter and more timid after the outfit change.

Jade sits on the bench for a moment but is told to get back up and turn around facing away, and soon she is told to put her hands behind her back and a pair of handcuffs is being applied. She kneels to be shackled, and then she's told to wait to go to a cell. The poor girl sits in her new prison clothes and tries to get used to how they feel on her. This is the first time she has ever been handcuffed, shackled, and dressed as a prisoner in her life. She folds over on the bench with dread as the moment where she is locked up behind prison bars grows nearer.
